In Service of Seniors & Open Your Heart to a Senior
Providing volunteer-based, neighborly services and friendly support for older adults with a need for basic, non-medical assistance in their homes and communities.
In Service of Seniors: Pittsburgh and Open Your Heart to a Senior are programs that provide services with a mission to maximize the independence of older adults in Allegheny and Westmoreland counties through volunteer-based practical supports. The programs have a strong, decades-long history of working with volunteers from the community, from universities, from religious congregations of all faiths, and from local businesses and professional groups to provide free neighborly services to adults age 60 and older.
Our caring volunteers provide in-home, non-medical services for older adults to help them maintain their independence and well-being in their own homes. Services are provided free of charge and include transportation to medical appointments, help with grocery shopping and errands, friendly visiting, help reading mail, and home safety inspections.
Are there any services that a volunteer is unable to provide?
Volunteers are unable to assist with housecleaning, money management (including bill paying), meal preparation, personal care, pet care, grass cutting, or help with packing or moving.
In Service of Seniors and Open Your Heart to a Senior are proud partners of United Way of Southwestern Pennsylvania, working to ensure that caring volunteers are matched with area seniors in need of neighborly assistance.
Volunteers must be over the age of 18, obtain clearances and complete a volunteer orientation
If you need assistance with any of these, please contact our program offices.
